There is a large selection of games that have marked gaming history in either how great the game was or how many were willing to buy this game. Titles such as Shadow Warrior, Doom and Quake have gotten new reboots and are great or going to be great, but what about those greats that haven't gotten the reboot treatment? Hello Wandering Traveler and welcome to this top 10 great games that really need a reboot. Know that games that are getting a reboot aren't getting a place on this list. Hope you enjoy
10. Silent Hill
The game has made everyone afraid to continue. SInce it's release, the game has become many's favorites and had hundreds of Game of the Year awards. The thought of a personal hell and why you're there is a great little plot point to give us an insane twist. It had a marvelous story and a great life-contemplating subject. Since the game seems to have no light of which to shine, the game will be poorly missed.
9. Duke Nukem
A game that made all of us laugh and play as the most legendary badass at the time. He was legend to teenagers of the late 90's. Since his crash sequel, Duke Nukem Forever, the laughter we had died with our hopes of this being a good game. After being a in Development Hell for almost a decade, how couldn't we see that this game was going to be a flop. People want the old and original gameplay back and the funny style that was Duke. A reboot of this game may be tricky, but it may work if done right, but as of now, the game has to wait until they are able to release a reboot or plan on it.
8. F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon)
After Doom was Half-Life and the title that took it's place was F.E.A.R.. A game that mixed a difficult shooter with some horror elements, and the Max Payne Slo-Mo, players have played this and it's sequels to the end. With the expansion of the the original and to F.E.A.R. 2 taking it's place again. The incredible AI made players think tactally and play strategically, while Alma, a god-like ghost continuously tries to kill you. Like Duke Nukem, the game fell after it's most recent sequel, F.E.A.R. 3. A game that just felt different and didn't play very good. It would be nice to see a new one out there, but I rather wait until the memories of 3 would go away.
7. Shadow of the Empire
A great game all together and has been placed on the best Star Wars game title. You play as Dash Rendar who is hired by the Rebels to destroy enemy bases and take out any high ranking official in the Empire. A fun adventure on the N64 and still holds up today. It would be great if they brought this game to a new looking side of things and recreated it's gameplay and setting in a new and acceptable fashion. Since Lucas Arts is gone, we all hope this game would find a good owner if this ever get a chance for a reboot.
6. Punch-Out!!
A classic game of the old 80's that challenges your skill, swiftness, and tests your patience. This was a game that had people playing until they couldn't now more. It made titles of best game of the year some many times and best cabinet even today. Once he game went to consoles too long after it's original cabinet release and later release on the Wii, the game had people crying or cheering (depending on how you are in the game). Although, the older versions were very... Well, offensive would be touching it. The Wii version took it seriously with the nationality roots of the boxing characters, making it a much more enjoyable game.
It was fun seeing good old Little Mac on the screen while you whaled on a boxer of any nationality. it would be nice to see the infamous Little Mac once again on either the Wii U or even on the awaited NX. Imagine how the game would be: better graphics, clean controls and a bit more challenge. I would love to see this game again and would love to see what whacky characters they might put in there as well. I mean, if Donkey Kong can be fought in the Wii Punch-Out, then I would love to see Wario or Bowser as a secret opponent.
5. Condemned
This was a great game that sent a constant chill down your spine every time when you're alone. The game had you on edge and kept you there until the big reveal of an enemy. I would personally love an acceptable reboot. It would be great if they fixed the camera controls, because it just was either too slow or just hard at turning! I know that builds on the scare factor, but I rather have some control on whether or not I want to face the guy scaring me!
The game would be great with better graphics, pleasing gameplay and on top of the graphics, make a better and long lasting scare out of me. I mean, seeing something with the equivalent of RE7 graphics would be awesome!
4. Rogue Squadron series
This a game of great memory back in the days of the N64. You played as a rookie pilot on a mission to defeat the Empire's greatest. Sounds too big for a simple rookie, but the rookie is being played by the player! The game was one of the best Star Wars game and still is to this day. It has a large amount of replayablity and who can forget about the black car V-Wing cheat?
I would love to see this made from today's tech and ignoring the flight controls in EA's Battlefront. Put some of the newest and coolest galactic ships in the Star Wars lore and take on some new places such as the Starkiller Base from Force Awakens. It would be great, but I want to see it in an acceptable fashion. I don't to see something new from EA, I want to see something cool.
3. Metroid Prime
A game that made long fans surprised upon release and created a great path of newer gaming for the future. With a great soundtrack, we are still to this day hoping for a sequel of this great series. After witnessing what was Federation Force, hopes for a new game or anything similar to the Prime games is lower than the hopes for a 3 appearing in any Valve game. It would be nice to see the game without motion controls and with awesome graphics. Although, graphics don't matter, but a beautiful game can bring gamers of all to gather around and a game like this would be perfect for just that
2. Serious Sam
Deemed to be a Quake Clone, the game made players play as the comedic Serious Sam to compete with the equally funny, Duke Nukem. The fast gameplay and unique enemies are great for today's challenge-seeking players. After playing and loving the new Doom Reboot, if the game was to adapt to that gameplay and create an even more fun ride. Seeing Sam at his richest in full HD and new tech would be a tear-jerking moment for me.
1. Time Splitters
This was one of the best game out there on the Xbox and Gamecube. I played this as a little kid and just loved it. I know this is a more personal entry, but I would love to see this game being rebooted in an acceptable version in today's standards. The gameplay would show us how much of a difficult game could be and the better graphics would give us a shed nostalgia when seeing Cortez in High Resolution.
With the game's plot, it would fit with today's futuristic setting. And the transition to other time periods sounds like a good way to bring in some new weapons on the table. And seeing either the same voice actor or a new/better voice actor for Cortez would be awesome and have me shed a tear for that piece of nostalgia and awesomeness.
What games do you think need to be rebooted? There are a lot of games out there that are of need of a fresh new start that I haven't named. Although, this is my picks, I would like to hear the community tell me what they think should be rebooted in the future. But 'til next time...
