There is a lot of games out there that I love to bring to a friends house or to a special event. I love to play a game with a person next to me sometimes, since it gives me a feeling that I know my opponent or partner. Games like Gears of War, Halo, Call of Duty are the ideal games I like to bring to a friend's house or to just play with physical friends. Hello and welcome to this CWC about the stories of our experiences of Local Multiplayer.
The Challenge
This is actually a blog I wanted to post a long time ago. There were... Some problems and was scrapped. It was about my first experience with Smash Bros.. It was a long day of awful teachers and kids being kids. I was kicked in the stomach in the bathroom because I was fat and dumb. That's what the kids told me! There was more, but I can't remember. Anyways, the teachers tried to find out who was the guy who started the fight, but couldn't find him. It was obviously not me, and seeing the principal was an oblivious good-for-nothing, I knew she would believe that I was the one who did it. I was suspended instead of the other kid as my dad angrily picked me up.
He asked me questions to see if I was the one who landed the first punch, I just had to show him the large bruise forming on my stomach and arm to believe I was beaten and not in a fight. As we went home, my dad told me he was going to a friend's house. I knew this meant I would see one of my best friends, Desiree. She had Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart and a few other games I wanted to play with friends. I could hardly remember most of the games we played, I remember helping her in Resident Evil 4, but that's all. I think she beat me a few times in Mario Kart, but I'm not sure. The only thing I could remember the most was the time when she put in Smash Bros. This was the first time I'd ever play Smash and, to be honest, this is the first I've heard of this game.
She gave Wii Remotes to me, my sister and her dad. He said he was a good player in the game, so I was eager to see what he had to throw at us. Four Players, No Items, 3 Stocks, Smash Ball. A basic Tournament rule. She chose Solid Snake, I chose Mario, my sis chose Kirby and Desiree's dad chose Pikachu. Hyrule Castle was the stage. The Announcer began to count from three to one as the big bolded letters saying "GO!" flashed on the screen. I was in the bottom area of the map as everyone else was above me.
I stayed as my sis fought Pikachu, spamming the Up-B on him. Desiree began to launch a combo on my sis as she launched her out, losing her stock. He dad started to run away right towards me. I panicked and pressed the B button on the remote as a bubble appeared around me. I blocked her hit! I held it down seeing if I could walk with it, but instead I started to dodge. I stayed like that until she grabbed me during a dodge and spiked, having me lose a stock. She began to do the same to all of us until the end of the game. We lost our stocks at 60% damage as she lost one at 200%.
Her dad began to ask us questions, asking if we played this game before or if we knew what we were doing. We said no and told her to teach us the basics of the game. She laughed as her dad commented on her letting us in the game not knowing what we were getting into. She showed us which button does the specials, which did punches and what Smash Attacks were. They were complicating, but I understood while my sister, too young to really get the hold of the game, silently nodded, not knowing what she said.
She began the match again, but without her dad playing. I chose the same character as she chose her favorite character, Link. My sis played as Peach this time. I took what she told us by heart, trying to use it to beat her. My sister stumbled mostly: falling off edges, forgetting which button did what. She surprisingly survived and took the most damage without losing a stock. I began to mix the Shield Dash with the Smash Attacks. I found out that was pretty effective. His Up-Smash did the most damage so I utilized that the most. I managed to take a stock off of her. I was her primary target and she was mine. I just had to keep the stocks higher than hers and I might win this.
The fight began to be more intense. She used her Smash Attacks more and began to hit me more than I did. She was challenging me! This was the first time I've fought some like this, having to put my all on someone without having my dad telling me to go easy on her. This was the most fun I was having in my life. Since I didn't have internet to play with someone online, this was the most memorable moment of my childhood life.
My sister watched us fight as we fought, waiting aggressively for one us to hit 100 damage for a suckerpunch. We would hit accidentally sometimes as we constantly fought for what felt like hours. We had 1 stock left as my sis had only 2 left with the hundred damage of us hitting her. She began to fight more aggressively, I could see it in her eyes as she played; focused, emotionless and non-responsive. I tried my best dodging each of her attacks. It wasn't working well. My hands began to sweat on the remote. I was excited and afraid at the same time. I could hardly keep the palms of my feet on the ground. She started to sprint towards me as a Pitfall seed fell above me. I thought items were off! She grabbed and threw it at me the same time I threw a fireball, making her flinch. This game me more time as she charged her smash attack. I held the be button as I saw my sister right next to me trying to steal her kill. She, surprisingly, started to charger her attack. I finally broke free as they both were still charging. I dashed behind my sister as her character missed and charged towards Desiree, missing her as well. Her smash attack hit my sis causing her to lose a stock and leaving her to wait for the right time again. I still had some time and did a quick smash, having her launch into the sky and losing her final stock.
I screamed in victory and boasted a bit as my sis launched me out of the screen as well. I was silent for a moment and took in the defeat by my sister. We both laughed though. My sister just dropped the controller on the floor and left inside to go to the bathroom.
Multiplayer Experience
This wasn't my first multiplayer experience, but it's my first FPS game multiplayer Experience. A group of friends I had came to my house and wanted to play the Gamecube we had. At first, they didn't even know what it was! They were use to the Wii and the 360 or PS3, that the Gamecube seemed like I had an Uncle who worked at Nintendo. They looked at the games we had and saw Timesplitters. Luckily I had three controllers for it. We started the game up and as they tried to figure out where the controllers plugged into and what to do with the buttons. I went to multiplayer and turned on some bots for some challenge. It was Team Death Match with my friends on one team and me being on the other.
Me being Handyman and my friends being two Zombies, we fought in the game as they tried their best to take what they know about the newer games and trying it on this. They managed, but they kept dying. That was fun! Although, they left angry that they didn't have a Gamecube or that they didn't have the game. A few days later, they come to my house and sneak the game into one of their jackets, not knowing the game wasn't compatible on the 360. Some friends. I found the game in the dumpster outside of our apartment.
My Sister's TF2 Experience.
TF2 has been dear to my heart for a long time and after my dad replaced his computer with a faster one, he gave me the old one, having me introduce my sister to a game she might like. I downloaded the game on my dad's PC (with my dad's permission) and showed her the classes. She tended to like the Scout more than the rest. She liked how he was a Boston D*uchebag with a shotgun. In her words, "He fits my personality."
I got her prepared and ready for a private match between me and her. She didn't like it too much since this would be her first time playing it, but I got her to keep play. I chose the Soldier with the Blackbox in hand and a Gibus on my head, while she had a default Scout. regular Cap. The Point game, perfect for her class! She hears me rocket jumping as I see her standing in the middle of the point. I rocket jump one more time, hovering above her with my shovel equipt. She looks around for the sound and sees me on the sky. She moves just a little but to the left, having me kill myself with fall damage. I should have looked closely to my health. She laughed and wanted to keep playing. She started to get the hang of it as I let her practice getting points and killing me. I still gave her a challenge, but not my all. She was pretty good for a newbie!
I walk to her room as a victory screen on her monitor flashed. I asked her if she wanted to take this online. With this being a new thing and new internet, she quickly said yes. I put on a pub and joined her in the game. She was doing good. P2P players were dying left and right as I got only 7 kills and 10 deaths even with her on the team. She was a what I'd like to call a Suicider. She stared at the face of death as she ran into Heavies and groups of Soldiers. She managed to take out two Level 3 Sentries at the same time! I got her in the game and there was no going back. I joined her in most and prefered to fight on the opposite team as her. Sibling Rivalry was solved with a single public match and anytime we fought, we resulted to either yelling, ignoring each other or TF2.
The game is long gone with her since PC gaming to her was no longer fun after we moved, leaving the second computer. I still play, but now it's without her. I still have fun, but I still remember the times we played on together.
Welp, that's all I have to tell! I hope you liked this and I hope this qualifies as a CWC. These are my favorite games to play locally and they mean a lot to me. These stories were fun to write and I hope you enjoyed them or related to them. Again, I hope you somewhat liked this and 'til next time...
