Destiny, the game that was going to make Halo the worse game on the market and the attempt for Bungie to flip Microsoft off. Eventually the game was bad after the game's short story and boring grinding, but you guys already know that. Now the game has gotten better, but again, you already know that. And before you CoD noobs say it, yes, I still play the game, but to make up for insulting the viewer, I'm going to tell you's guys's what is wrong with the game. Hello and welcome to this Side-Of-Salt inspired thought blog!
Everybody has the same thing to talk about, which is the game's repetitive gameplay, so I'll leave for the end. Let's talk about the class skills. Now, I'm a Titan, so I'll focus on that for a bit. The Striker, being the first Subclass skill you get, is a very minimal class. The grenades are useful, but the Super is nothing compared to the other things you can do with them. You would need a large group of people in one place to preform it. The lasting effect is a trap of some sort, but only a moron would walk into that... No I didn't walk into one... Okay maybe once...
The Grenades are helpful, but I wish they bounced a bit. As a Halo player, I like to do some Grenade-Trickshots, but that's the only criticism I have. The Defender Subclass isn't much fun either. You can throw life draining grenades and produce an orb shield like from Halo playing as the Medic class set. The only thing good about it is how the shield, like in Halo, gives you health, plus an extra shield in the player. Players can destroy this, like in Halo, if given the best firepower, like in Halo. The only thing I like about this ability is it's description
At Six Fronts, Defending the Wall was not Enough, the Titans had to become a wall
-Defender's Mark Description
The only thing I can play as a Titan is the Sunbreaker subclass. I mean, everything about fire is burning and this takes the next step with a fiery hammer and grenades. You can throw a grenade that creates a literal fire wall or a grenade that causes a fiery explosion. Each one doing great damage, but the best thing is when you bring your hammer out. And explosion when pulling it out and throwing it out. It does awesome damage, but what sucks is how you don't get power back from doing this, you have to make sure you have full health or close to that to do this without being gunned down like a fox during a fox hunt. You do get shield back when you kill someone, but while it's charging, you can still take damage on you health. What makes this awful is how your screen doesn't alert you that your still taking health damage. You can still be shot down as your shield is loading!
Now, besides the powers, let's talk about how the classes look. Each one has a characteristic: the Titan is a protector and wall of the Tower and the city, as the Warlock is the scientist of the Tower, that invents technology for the people of the city. What does the Hunter do? Provide for the people? Sounds like being a coach. I mean, when you look at it, you got the Awesome Titan and the Magnificent Warlock, and here's the Hunter. They hardly look cool at all, too! The only thing that is very defining, besides the supers, is the hood, the edgy Edge Lord of clothing. What sucks, there is hardly any that look cool. They either look too tight around the head, too edgy or just a wrong color.
The other thing that bothers me is the Warlock's arm band. Why an arm band? You can't even see it! The Titan has a Belted Flag on his waist and the Hunter has an Edgy Hood that can be seen by everyone, but the Warlock! You might think that the Orb in his hand would be the cosmetic, but somehow the stupid band is on his arm. I clap to your creativity, Bungie!
What I like is how they put some class specific weapons: Scout Rifle, Pulse Rifle and the Auto Rifle. Can you tell who gets what? Before you break your brain, the Titan takes the Auto Rifle, the Hunter has the Scout Rifle and the Warlocks have the Pulse Rifles. It's funny how everyone, no matter their class, uses the Auto Rifle. Why waste your stamina rapidly tapping the trigger when you can just hold the trigger? Plus I've only see one guy use the other weapons in the Crucible and he was in dead last in the game's leaderboard. Yes, the Scout Rifles do more damage per shot, but a rapid firing weapon does more continuous damage and you don't have to tracer your target.
Same goes to the secondary weapons. The shotgun is for the Titan, the Sniper Rifle is for the Hunter and the Fusion Rifle is for the Warlock, but people mostly use a pistol or the two scatter guns. Handcannons are a thing in the Primary slot, but hardly anyone uses it in Crucible. The pistols are an every class thing and is good in a hairy spot. You don't need to be accurate to get a kill on it like the scatter guns, but is also long ranged. The only thing about the pistol is when kids play with it and say they're going to bust a cap in you. No one wants to hear that.
Now, going away from the characters and already discussing the guns, let's talk about the story. I think I'm the only one who liked it. It was interesting, it made you want to unravel more about it, but we all know that's what sucks about the game. The story was so great, it had to end short. We were left with so many questions that weren't answered or created upon finish. Who was that awesome Exo Stranger? She was played by Ellie from the Walking Dead, which sucks for how little screen time she had. What was she doing anyways? She seemed to be apart of something like the cults you can join, such as The Future War Cult, and it seemed like they were fighting something! What was it? Why was she always running away whenever she heard something was wrong? I want to know! It was just a mess of how much they left us hanging. Leaving us with boring grinding and side missions. Almost felt like Bungie was flipping us off.
What makes me laugh is how most of the story and backstory of everything in Destiny was explained in Codex Cards or whatever they're called. I was just hoping that they would tell us what was intended to be told or show us in later DLC's. And the DLC's did put some things behind the game's story, like what the Fallen are and the Hive's power, but they were not what we wanted. We wanted something to expand the story not gameplay. Future Devs out there, you better take those words by heart. They were fun while it lasted, but it just went by so fast. The only one that lasts the longest is the House of Wolves that had some easy-to-do missions (As far as I can say).
The DLC's gameplay were fun, but they never lasted long or just had some strange missions. Actually most are just messed up missions with complicated ways to finish them. Most of the time, I just don't have the time to do most of these missions or I just don't feel like it. Game's aren't suppose to do that. A game aren't made to have you say, "Eh, I do that later." I mean if you're busy doing something else in the game, that's exceptional, but if you don't want to do what is in the game because it's too much work, that a bad sign for a game. At least make the game have easier quests than what we're given! I don't want to do 5 specific public events to get a quest done or do 500 side quests when the game gives me a random selection of out the 500. I just it to be something fun and exciting, not doing errands all day just so I can a weapon I might like.
Now let's go to the gameplay! Wow, who knew it would end on this? Well, the gameplay is somewhat fun. It's enjoyable and shooting things is just so satisfying, but that was for the story and vanguard missions. The rest is just boring. Boring side quests that only had the play go to point A to point B in seconds. Nothing to expand on, just kill this guy, get this many kills, get these items by killing these enemies, just boring, repetitive gameplay that we don't want to dwell on for the rest of the game. I mean, most typical people could say, "You got multiplayer to waste your life on!' Well, that get's old quick! It has fun gameplay and fun objectives that are easy to do and fun to accomplish, but that all gets boring fast! I play Chess, but I only play every now and then. It's fun, but just gets old! Plays can say that there's the Vanguard missions to do, but those are the same things over and over. You tend to get Déjà vu everytime you want to play one. You can say the Rise of Iron changed it up, but it's just a retexture of the old thing! At least do something new with the Vanguard missions, Bungie, they seem to be the only interesting thing about the game at the moment!
Well, that's it. I cooled myself down and it was fun writing this. I know this is a lot of hate on the game, but I still love it. It's fun once in every time I play it and I just love being a Titan. Tell me guys, do you guys still play Destiny? Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this and 'til next time...
