Doom, the game that will never be beat by any game. The game was awarded best of 2016, best music score and best overall. I think it's one of the bests of Id, but every game has it's mistakes. I got the game the night before it came out and very little people were there. Although surprised I was excited to see what the game would be. I was amazed with the game, but as I progressed, I saw some flaws. Hello and welcome to another late thought blog.
To destroy any worry, I will start with the campaign. Like most games, it starts with a complicated plot point where the player will ask many questions. Where am I? Why am I here? Why did I get out of a coffin like box? Plots holes that don't really make a hole in the whole story. Lots of holes in that sentence. Anyways, you begin in a perfect room with a perfect scenario. The player is taught the game's basics, how to kill things, how to not fear anything and learn the flow of the game. You meet with a character known as Samuel Hayden, a robot that tells you that these people were expendable, you are forced to engage in this scene, but it's not much. Although, this is the only plot you be forced to engage, the game doesn't force the player to be engaged in the plot. The game does have some interesting things to know about the game, but these can all be ignored and read later. I love that a lot. Most games force feed the player with all this plot that seems to meaningless or just too much to take in. You can just run past it and it won't change the game at all.
The little collectables can be a bit tedious where it's placed and how not-so-secret they can be. You can just go right instead of left to find this little toy. Some are cleverly hidden and are a joy to find, but I wish they made it challenging to find them. I know they are placed so the player can be aware of the secrets in the game, but I think the better part of Doom was that the game told you that you missed something. You would finish a level and it would say, "75% secrets found!" You would be like, What!? I missed something in this level!? That's what most players liked about the originals, there was something well hidden in the level that you missed and you must find it to feel complete. This addition to Doom placed some of the secrets in a place that was too obvious to the player and doesn't feel like a proper secret. A small little thing I didn't like that most won't agree with, but it's something I thought needs to be said.
The gameplay on the other hand, it's perfect to be frank. The flow of the game is so pleasurable and fun. The fast paced gameplay is so fluid, I just love it! The only I had a problem with it is how the game ends so quickly. I mean, it is fun, but I wish it could trailed longer than it should have. I know, the game looks like the game is going to have a sequel, but it leaves off so poorly, with you expecting a final fight other than the Mother Brain you just fought. Hayden takes your relic and puts you in prison again. Looks like a fun and exciting little end, but for most players, it left them with gaping mouths of unexpected anger. It makes you say, "That's it?" and tries to convince you to play the magical Multiplayer or the dangerous Snap Map mode to pass the time.
I think they should have announced a campaign DLC to satisfy those players like me who hated how the game ended. Instead they had to focus on the game's multiplayer and adds some meaningless maps and monsters for a low price of 15 bucks for each one. I was actually shocked when they decided not to expand the game's campaign, I mean, there could have been so much to add to it and create such a call back to the previous games.
To save the best for last, I want to instead talk about the Snap Map levels. Some levels are creative, but others are just too stupid. Sorry for those who made the stupids ones, it matters if you had fun with it. Anyways, I think the people behind some of these levels are creative and put a lot of time in them. I mean, someone made a MOBA out of the creation kit! That's awesome! It does have some Mario Maker aspects to it, but I think it's cool to see the developer put this here.
Although, the trainer is not very helpful more complicated mechanics, but I think they put some great things in this. I still think they should put some better trainers out there to make the it easier to create some of the more complicated ideas in the creative people out there.
Last, but not least, I want to talk about the multiplayer. Although, most people hate it, I kind of had fun with it. Yes, the gameplay is nowhere near the source material, Quake, but it can be fun. It's still a typical multiplayer mode, though. It is the kind of modes that get old quick and don't give much fun after thousands of times play it. I still think it gets tedious when you get in a fight. Most players just circle each other and hope they get the last shot. There are some weapons in the game that kind of replaces what you've learned with the game, like the Rifles and Pistol which doesn't engage in the fast paced gameplay the game is based around. There are people that are good with those weapons, but they just utilize the fast paced gameplay by running away.
The grenades kind of makes me mad. The game introduces a gameplay that encourages chasing your opponent, but the grenades are ignored in this gameplay. There are some that prove useful, but I thought it would be awesome to see something similar to Halo, where it is completely utilized and meshes well with the gameplay. The splash damage is small, the grenade is s bouncy and it just doesn't fit with any game mode. I thought they were going to do something different with the grenade, but they just followed something that just doesn't feel right.
The demons in the Multiplayer fit with some modes, but they feel too overpowered. They are fun, I mean you feel like a god among weaklings, but when you're on the other end of the stick, you feel powerless and incapable of protecting against this monster among men. They are cool, I have to say and they have a lot of strategy to them, but some of the demons that need more getting use to are too deadly. Others, you jump away from blasts, but the Night Crawler is just unavoidable. He just jumps at you with a passion and rips you apart without warning. At least you can hear the Baron and the Mancubus you can dodge his projectiles.
Well, that's it. It has been a hard day to write this, but it was fun. I hope you liked this somewhat and if you disagree with me, we can discuss this, I like a little debate once in awhile, but at the moment, i have a headache, so wait a while. Again, hope you enjoyed this and 'til next time...
