8.50Before seeing some videos, I didn't even realize that Blitz was coming out this month. And considering I hadn't played more than 5 minutes of any other game in the series, I didn't have much reason to buy this game.
However, after seeing a few Youtube videos, I was convinced this was a promising game. Perhaps not great, but fun. I picked it up 2 days after it released to the PSN store, and played for 3 hours with a friend that day.
In those 3 hours I don't think I've laughed more in one sitting of a game ever. From punching people through end zones, to smashing players in the air with big heads, to having a boss battle with a team of horses, this game is hilarious. The random commentators are always good as well.
The game-play has an oddly satisfying and addicting feel to it. After seeing that first hit, it just makes you want to play more, even if your losing, just to see what else you can do.
But they're faults to the game. One angering issue was that my settings didn't save twice. Meaning I had to exit the game I was in, go back to the menu (because you can't change much in-game) and set them again, each time I played the game.
I also found a lack of depth in the game-play. I under stand that this is an arcade-spirited game, but the lack of any runs, is a little odd.
Online game-play is problematic. If lag doesn't ruin your game, then it becomes a contest of who can abuse the game more. From tackling receivers right before the ball is thrown to them, to infinite flea flickers, the online is rage inducing. I understand that is the games focus, but anything truly competitive should be left to Madden and NCAA.
Overall, for 15 bucks, this is a good title. It's a lot of fun, and very fun to play with someone else. Unfortunately the replay value of this game is great if you want to play it a lot. But picking it up every once and a while on a rainy day can be great.
It gets a 8.5 for its fun, and refreshing game-play. But the issues it has really stops it from being a great game.
