The 5 Things that Games Make Us Cry About...

There are a lot of games that make us cry emotionally. Most players believe the best tear jerker is a character dying or someone's best friend leaving, but what makes a tough player cry something a lot more than that. Hello Wandering Traveler and welcome to this 5 things we cry about in games.

5. Comeback of a Long Series

Remember the time when we were still giggly about Fallout 4? Remember when the game was announced? How the game looked and how the trailer caught us, it made most fans cry with enjoyment. We couldn't wait to have it in our hands and as the game came out, it gave us such a moment. You felt glad that this game, assumed to be dead, was still living and breathing. Any game can have a long awaited comeback, but can have an uneffective announcement, but when the game is beloved or favorited as much as Final Fantasy or Fallout, then you might get players in tears. And didn't almost cry when that sign said"Welcome Home!"

4. A Relatable, Serious Moment

Games can have relatable moments, and most can be as simple as waiting in a line in the DMV, but when the game hits a soft-spot, misty eyes might appear. I have a friend that has a carrying dad. He has 3 kids, one of them is still a little baby and  one is baking in the oven. When he played Bioshock Infinite, he got to the part where Booker gives the girl to wipe his dept away, his daughter. Once booker tries to grab his daughter back and knowing he regrets doing so; he said he almost cried. It was a moment, as he said, that he fears and something he wishes not happen. This got him to not play the game again after completion. The moment of fear and relatability can make a player feel as it it's happening again or for the first time.

Another example would be That Dragon, Cancer. Anyone with a relative or family member that has cancer can relate to the fact that this father has a child born with this terrible disease. God, when I played it, I get some terrible memories of a long lost friend.

3. An Impossible Triumph

A lot of games don't have this, but when they do this, a win would feel like you won the lottery. In a game like Final Fantasy 7, where you have to defeat Sephiroth, makes you feel like every possible win would be negated to a defeat. As soon as you defeat him, in the seemingly impossible fight, you just wanna scream in victory and cry as if your team in FiFA won. Besides that, a boss or semi-boss in Dark Souls can do the same. Since the game is unspeakably difficult, the triumph feels worth the crying over.

2. A Long Time Friend Gone

This doesn't mean an instant death of a supposed "Old Friend," I mean a character in a game that has been with you since the first game's release. For example: Dom was a great and loveable person and a relatable character. You felt his pain when his wife was found frail and mindless. You could see him pulling that trigger and the regret on doing so. You just wanted to hug him and comfort him. Only if, because we could have prevent his death. When you saw him die and hear him calling out to his wife, all you could do was watch and shed one tear of respect. A character like him is hard to let go. It's like saying Darrel died in Walking Dead. He was such a beloved character, you couldn't let him go when he died, or if he dies. He might have acted like a piece of nostalgia for the player.

1. The Nostalgia Release

This is something only big fans can agree on. A big game or a long running game giving you hints that this has carried on from the other. If you watched Steam Train's video, with Dan and Ross, on the new King's Quest game, Danny mentions how he feels sad to see King Graham old. And I can see why he says that. King's Quest V showed us young King Graham living well and being strong, but when you see him in the new addition, he is frail, old and withered, making you feel like so much time has passed. I mean it's been 21 years since the last game. Besides Graham's look, the game shows you the covers of all the games in tapestries after the prologue. I haven't played any of the games except King's Quest VI and seeing the cover in the game almost had a tear run down my face.

I hoped you liked this little list! It was fun to write, although it was small, it was still fun. I had some top 10's planned, but they didn't seem interesting. This was to replace them. Again, I hope you somewhat liked this and could relate to this. 'Til Next time...
