Gears 4 was the game of the year for me. Well, Dishonored 2 was the best for me, but they are right next to each other. The game was great, but there are some things wrong with it and can still make any long time fan mad. Hello and welcome to this time wasting thought blog!
Oh boy! What to complain about? There is the Multiplayer, but the Campaign was a disappointment. The Horde Mode improved, but the lag is still the worst thing in the game. What should I start on? Well, let's talk about the Campaign so you guys out there can skim to the other section to avoid spoilers.
It was fun. I mean, the weather was a good mechanic, but wasn't utilized at all. It was at certain segments of the game, but the only thing that the game did was make you want to get out of it. It really gets the storm's in place with the whole danger aspect with it, but even then, I'm glad they didn't put this in the game entirely. It was a hassle to get through and made me not want to use Grenades or get out of my cover. The wind pushes you while you run to a crawl. I could spam the dodge button, but why do that if the enemies have a pin-point aim and somehow have a good handle with their grenades in this weather? What made me angry in the game was when Lightning or whatever they're called strikes and the game forces you to run through it. Any of you new players playing on Hardcore, good luck in those parts, because you are going to run through that constantly and die trying.
Besides that, the new weapons were good. They made the Hammerburst somewhat useful, the new look of the Lancer is cooler than the other ones and the Retro Rifle is still the worst long ranged weapon in the game. I can see why, the damn thing is OP (That means Over Powered to you old guys out there). The only weapon I have a problem with is the Pistol. Not the Snub, the revolver pistol. They made it fire faster (Like it needed that), the accuracy lowers with every shot (The one thing that made the weapon worse) and they debuffed it! The only pistol that preferred in the campaign was that gun! You can take down a Boomer in a few well aimed shots of that gun! I really hate the gun now, but in the multiplayer, the gun is fun if used by a pro.
With that said, let's talk about the story itself. I liked how it started, but hated how it ended. The reveal of Marcus was great and it was like seeing an old friend, but seeing him go was... Questionable. It looked like the developers we trying to say JD was the new Marcus and to prove it, we killed him. I'm glad he didn't die, but the thought of them doing that almost made me mad.
What made me confused was why the COGs were the enemy. I know sometimes a Government can be corrupt, but what's their reason to send their entire Robot Army to kill three kids on the run? I know that they were accused of taking COG members, but why blame a small village with so little people to fight against the COG? And why go about it so aggressively? You could just talk to them without guns pointed at them! And when they finally got what was going on, they apologize, expecting them to accept it without saying f**k you!
And when the game ends with you finding out Kate's grandmother was the Locust Queen was such a bad cliffhanger. I know Cliffhangers are suppose to get the viewer hyped for the continuation, but all this did was make me say, "Really?" It left expecting more. No, not wanting more, expecting more. If you don't know the difference, listen to your English Teacher. If you don't know, that's a bad thing. It's Firefly-ending bad. It was a good reveal, if you ask me, but too much of a bad surprise of an end.
Now that we put the campaign away, let's talk about the game's multiplayer. People have said it's impossible and can be identical to a roulette wheel, while others say it can beat CoD's multiplayer, but if you ask me, it's unbalanced. They have changed the game's weapon damage so players can result to other weapons than the shotgun/Gnasher, but players still begin a match with a Gnasher in their hands. It's been that way since the game's first release and has hardly changed. The shotgun makes cover useless, I mean, all you have to do is rush in and shoot and hope you got him, which is yes in almost every attempt.
If you ask me, the only thing that makes the game fun is if you try to take new advantages against players. Go behind them, flank them, or just plain out go Rambo on them. If you do these things at the right time, and I mean the right time, you will have some fun. Most of the modes are the same, but the one that is Balanced is Arms Race. It's a smart mode that has the players get as many kills as they can for the team to advance to a new weapon. If you used all the weapons first, you win the match. It's the only one I can say is fun and manageable to get over a death.
The one mode I hate the most is Guardian. It's a fun mode, since you have infinite lives, but I hate how you have to rely on one player to not die and hope he doesn't run into a shotgun. In the beginning of a match, it picks a player out of random and hope that guy is good. After that, it takes the guy on top of the leader board. This mode just makes you mad constantly, having people blame not themselves, but the leader. I got yelled at by so many players because of this. The only thing I enjoy in this mode is if the team that has only 3 people alive manages to win and and kill the leader. I don't know why, maybe it's because of the team work.
Another thing I want to talk about is the Lag in the game. I hear it's a constant thing that happens to players in the game. I have experienced it and saw it lots of times in as I play a match. Players jittering in and out of place, teammates running into walls, I shot out of random one time and killed someone that appeared in front of me. It's a problem I hate and I can't stand. I hope they fix it in the future.
Speaking of which, let's talk about the Horde. Like the Multiplayer, there is constant lag. I mean, if you try to get to cover, you are somewhere else or in front of an enemy. What makes this obvious that this is a glitch is how if you stay in a game for too long it gets worse and you see it in the other players. I don't know if this happens to all players, but I have experienced it and it takes away from the fun of the game. Fix it developers.
And to move one, let's talk about the game itself. Horde is fun. Without bounties, you can get lots of credits. You can get extra with the bounties, but who can finish those things? They are mostly get this many kills with this weapon or make this many items or survive this many rounds without dying, it nothing fun and not enough challenge. It's like the Contracts in TF2. You spend 5 bucks to do the simplest things. Can you give me something challenging? Tell me to get three Scion Kills with the drill without aiming! Or get 5 kills in one shot with the Boomshot or Frag Grenade, things like that please! I want to do something else than errands. I want to do something that is fun and challenging at the same time.
The enemies in the mode are balanced as you progress each level and the Enemy buffs are great and fun, but why these bosses? They are the most tedious things to do in this mode. It's like the typical arcade shoot: shoot here! The only two that I can tolerate are the Snatcher and Carrier bosses. The Snatcher is a bit annoying, but it's a balanced boss if you ask me. The Swarmak, the Attack Helicopter are just boring. It's another errand to kill him, shoot the weak spots and you kill him! Yay. I know you can just shoot him anywhere and you can still do damage, but who wants to waste all that time and ammo? And to make it frustrating, they decided to add some enemies to back the boss up. I know it's suppose to add some tension, but it's another chore to deal with! As you're shooting the boss, a Swarm Drone comes up to you and tries to kill you as a Scion Boomer and Grinder tries backs him up. I would understand if they put some Juvies as a side enemy for the boss, but I know I wouldn't like that either.
To move one, I want to talk about the Crates, the one thing that every gamer hates. Well, CS:GO players to be exact. Although, they can give you some new items to customize your character, but if you have played the game for over a year, you start to see a pattern. You get the same thing over and over again as you waste real-life money or in-game money to get that one skin. They have been releasing some limited time crates that cost almost to 400 credits (Which is cheap) and give something new for once, but still the fact that you can get duplicates out them can make you not want it.
They have made some new system where you can get coins out of the duplicates to buy another crate or build a skin yourself. There needs to be more games like that. TF2 does that, why not have some games do the same? I still don't know how to break down some of my skins, so can someone tell me or something?
The game is still fun. Not every game is perfect nor can anyone try, the game is still great and you totally need to buy. If you have the money and the time and if you like it that is. Well, I hope you enjoyed this blog and 'til next time...
